“Gartner has covered 13 vendors in this research which can be classified across three categories based on their background”.

  • Large network equipment vendors: Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, Samsung, ZTE
  • Specialist small cell and digital adoption solutions (DAS) vendors: Air span Networks, Baicells, Comba Telecom Systems Holdings, CommScope, Corning
  • New Open vRAN vendors: Mavenir, Radisys, STL (Sterlite Technologies)

As per Gartner, “These vendors are listed as they have a relatively high degree of visibility and traction in the CSP 5G small cell market and have greater mind share with CSP. The backgrounds of these vendors continue to impact their GTM strategy and competitiveness

Open RAN Players Are Gaining Attention – Especially in the Enterprise Small Cells Domain

Interest in Open RAN and vRAN is growing, which established the new vendor ecosystem and cooperation (see Competitive Landscape: 5G RAN Vendors). Per report, “An increase in the number of open-source small cell software providers enables new entrants like OEMs and ODMs to enter the market with white box solutions based on Open vRAN. However, it calls for a robust sourcing and partnering strategy to deal with the disaggregated, virtualized architecture.”
